NDIS Practice Standard Certification for Service Providers

What is the NDIS Practice Standard?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Practice Standard is a governance and management system service delivery standard, for the provision of quality and safe services to people with a disability.

The NDIS Practice Standard is designed for setting service delivery compliance standards, and for assessing and improving the quality of disability service providers, and includes:

  • a set of quality and safety standards, which cover the mandatory compliance requirement of disability service delivery under the NDIS,
  • an assessment process to review the performance of service providers against the standard (assessment includes a self-assessment and external Certification Body audit for Certification to NDIS Practice Standard – which all NDIS providers will need), and
  • a continuous improvement framework.

The NDIS Practice Standards and NDIS Code of Conduct for service providers provide clear and enforceable standards for the quality and safety of services and support requirements for NDIS providers. All NDIS Certified providers and workers must abide by the NDIS Practice Standards and NDIS Code of Conduct, which set out service provider expectations for behaviour, culture and service delivery.

In providing supports or services to people with disability, service providers must be able to demonstrate, through external audit, their compliance with the NDIS Practice Standards and NDIS Code of Conduct.

Who does the NDIS Practice Standards Apply to?
Human Services Quality Framework

NDIS Practice Standard Certification applies to service providers registered with, or planning on registering with, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Quality and Safeguards Commission (see details below) – to deliver prescribed disability services for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Get your business NDIS Certified and ready to support NDIS Plan participants

Would be NDIS service providers must register with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission (NDIS Commission), which has its own set of NDIS Quality and Safeguards Rules (a set of requirements for quality and safety).

Service providers who register with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission must meet the NDIS Practice Standards, including requirements for quality and safety in the services/support they deliver to NDIS participants.

From 1 July 2018, the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission (referred to simply as NDIS Commission) began operating in New South Wales and South Australia. The NDIS Commission will begin to regulate and register providers operating in:

  • Qld, Vic, Tas, ACT, and NT – from 1 July 2019, and
  • WA – from 1 July 2020.
